La bataille contre le dilatoire

1 min read

Procrastination.

I'll do it later

I'll do it tomorrow

I'll do it soon

WHEN?

When will you commit to doing it?

But more importantly, why are you putting it off?

  • Have you deceived yourself into believing the task is difficult and/or monumental and that you need some kind of special energy to tackle it? (Codswallop.)

  • Self-sabotaging? Why?

  • Scared of success? Why?

  • Scared of failure? Why?

  • Perfectionist? Nip that disease in the bud!

Here's the good news:

Being a procrastinator does not need to be part of your identity.

You can choose to be someone who gets on with things and gets things done.

But whatever you choose, your actions must match that for it to be true.

So...here are some actions that may help contre le dilatoire:

If it's a big task, break it down into all the steps that you will need to do to complete it.

  • Start with the smallest step that you need to take in order to get started in completing it.

  • Take that step.

  • CELEBRATE!!

Remove the number of 'roadblocks' to the task

  • Need to contact someone? Already get the phone number or email address, and plan out what you need to say or write.

  • Need to go to the gym in the morning? Get out your trainers, sports kit, pack your bag, water bottle etc.

If you are really struggling to tackle a specific task, try to delve deeper into why.

  • Write about it.

  • Get to the root of it.

  • Slay it.

Finally, take at least one small step per day.

Before you know it, the compound effect will have you obliterating your to-dos into tiny pieces, and taking on the world.

You'll get a feeling of elation van binnen that will be sweeter than dulce de leche. (and that stuff is sweet)

Enjoy it. Savour it. Celebrate it. Don't forget it.

Your future self will thank you.
