The Ambiguity of Self

1 min read

Feel your emotions.

What does that even mean?

I don't know.

I'm still learning.

But maybe it's sitting still and identifying the emotion that you're feeling.

Uncovering the reasons why you are feeling it.

And in so doing, discovering one's self:

the object of one's reflective consciousness

The definition of self, of course differs, depending on whether you're talking to a Freudian, an Eastern philosopher, or a Christian.

And even then, it's still a contentious issues, especially within Christian circles, with some sides focusing on the denial and almost hatred of oneself, and others more inclined to focus on the fact that we were created in God's image.

In any case, the subject of 'self' deserves a whole blog post or series of its own.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” ~ Mark 12.30
